Standing Committees

Serving Alcoholics Anonymous in the Morongo Basin

Committees

District committees are typically composed of current GSRs in the district, and the DCM and Alternate DCM elected by the GSRs. Each GSR has a vote on district matters and elections. Standing committees address specific tasks, where chairpersons may be elected by the district or appointed by the DCM. Committee meetings are normally held outside of regularly scheduled district meetings, however there may be a need for a meeting ot coincide ot conduct district business.

Due to the small size of District 30, and services needs within the district, Committee participation by the DCM, alternate, and GSRs may be limited. Below are the Standing Committees established by District 30.

Literature Committee

The Literature Committee informs the District of the status of new and revised A.A. literature and of proposals for the printing of new literature. The committee provides current information to group literature representatives

The Literature chairperson attends MSCA Literature Committee meetings and provides reports at district meetings attended by other GSRs.

Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC)

The CPC Committee participates in all Area CPC meetings and provides reports to the District Meetings. The Chairperson form a district committee consisting of interested GSRs to participate in CPC activities in the local area.

The Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC) Committee provides information about A.A. to those who have contact with alcoholics through their professions. This group includes physicians and other healthcare professionals, educators, members of the clergy, lawyers, law- enforcement personnel, and social workers. Such information includes what A.A. is and is not, as well as what it does and does not do. Participation in the MSCA CPC Committee monthly meetings is beneficial to the performance of the duties of the CPC Committee Chair.

Treatment Committee

The Treatment Committee makes presentations to administrators and alcoholic participants in treatment facilities to familiarize them with what A.A. has to offer them upon discharge. The Treatment Committee includes the District Bridging The Gap responsibility and attends the MSCA Treatment Committee/Bridging The Gap meetings.

Volunteers can serve as “temporary” contacts for people leaving a treatment facility to introduce them to local meetings and other alcoholics in recovery.

Service Committees

Hospitals & Institutions (H&I)

District 30 H&I Committee strives to maintain current information and points of contact for groups and individuals looking to participate in the rewarding experience of carrying the message to those in a treatment setting or incarcerated in jails and prisons within our service area. Participating in this area of service may have requirements for sobriety, legal records, and pre-screening based on the requirements of a facility. Panel captains and organizers within the H&I structure are always willing to help people get involved in the many opportunities to carry the message.

The H & I Chairperson attends H&I meetings in Coachella Valley and MSCA-09, and provides reports to district meetings.

Service Committees

Public Information (PI) Committee

The Public Information (PI) Chairperson attends all Area PI Committee meetings, coordinates all PI activities with the district, and provides reports at monthly District meetings.

Remote Communities

Remote Communities committees work to bring A.A. to communities that are difficult to reach because of geography, language or culture.

Corrections Committee

Corrections committees work to carry the A.A. message of recovery to incarcerated alcoholics.

“Our Twelfth Step - carrying the message - is the basic service that the A.A. Fellowship gives; this is our principal aim and the main reason for our existence. Therefor, A. A. is more that a set of principles; it is a society of alcoholics in action.”

— Bill W.
